Becoming is not about becoming someone else. It is about becoming more fully acquainted with who you are.
The Practice of Becoming is a 1.5-hour somatic workshop exploring what it means to inhabit yourself through movement, awareness, reflection, and connection.
We’ll weave somatic education directly into movement, using the body as a place to notice, explore, and learn. Through intentional movement practices, journaling, guided reflection, and conversation, we’ll explore how our internal experiences shape the way we move through the world and how movement can create new possibilities for how we relate to ourselves.
We’ll make space to slow down, get curious, and listen without needing to immediately change, fix, or explain it.
You can expect:
Somatic movement and embodied exploration
Practical education about the nervous system and our embodied experiences
Guided journaling and reflection
Community conversation and connection
Tea and intentional time to integrate
This is not about performing the “right” movement or arriving with the right answers. It’s an opportunity to notice what is here, explore what is changing, and practice meeting yourself with greater awareness. This is an invitation to practice being with yourself as you are, while making room for what may be becoming.
Come as you are. Leave with something to practice.
Somatic Saturday:
The Practice of Becoming
Space is intentionally limited to keep this experience intimate and allow for meaningful reflection and connection.
What Does It Mean to Become?
We often think of becoming as a destination: becoming stronger, more confident, more healed, more grounded, more ourselves. But becoming can also be a practice of paying attention.
Our bodies are constantly communicating with us through sensation, movement, breath, emotion, tension, ease, resistance, and desire. When we learn to listen, we may begin to notice patterns that are easy to move through life without recognizing.
In this workshop, we'll explore becoming not as a goal of self-improvement, but as an ongoing relationship with ourselves.
A practice of noticing. A practice of listening. A practice of allowing yourself to be more aware of who you are.
Who Is This For?
The Practice of Becoming is for anyone who wants to develop a more connected relationship with their body and inner experience. You don't need previous experience with somatic practices, yoga, or meditation.
You might be drawn to this workshop if you:
Feel curious about somatic movement or embodiment
Want to better understand the connection between your body and nervous system
Are navigating a period of change or transition
Want practical ways to become more aware of what you're experiencing
Often find yourself thinking your way through experiences and want to explore a more embodied approach
Want space for reflection, connection, and community
Simply feel called to slow down and listen
Come as you are. There is nothing you need to accomplish here.
What We'll Explore
Somatic education will be woven throughout our movement practice rather than separated into a traditional lecture. We'll explore practical concepts related to:
Body awareness
Learning to notice sensation, movement, breath, tension, ease, and other signals from the body.
The nervous system
Building a practical understanding of how our nervous system influences our experiences, responses, and capacity.
Embodiment
Exploring what it means to experience ourselves from within the body rather than simply thinking about the body.
Self-awareness
Developing practices for noticing what is happening without immediately judging or trying to change it.
Capacity and choice
Exploring how awareness can create more options in the way we respond, move, and relate.
What You'll Experience
This isn't a traditional yoga class or a sit-and-listen workshop. We'll move between different ways of learning and experiencing:
Somatic movement
Gentle, intentional movement designed to cultivate awareness and curiosity rather than performance.
Somatic education
Practical nervous-system and embodiment concepts woven directly into the movement experience.
Journaling
Time to reflect privately on what you're noticing, feeling, and learning.
Conversation
An opportunity to connect with others and explore what we're discovering together.
Tea
Time to slow down, settle in, and simply be together.
There will be space to participate, pause, observe, and make the practice your own.
What You Might Leave With
There isn't one right outcome for this experience.
You may leave with a deeper understanding of your body's signals, a new way of thinking about your nervous system, or practical somatic practices you can return to in everyday life.
You may notice something you hadn't noticed before.
You may feel more connected.
You may simply feel like you had a few hours to breathe and listen.
The intention isn't to leave "fixed."
It's to leave with more awareness, more choice, and something to practice.
Frequently Asked Questions

No. You do not need previous yoga or somatic movement experience. The practices are designed to meet you where you are.

Not exactly. Movement is an important part of the workshop, but this somatic workshop is a broader somatic experience that combines movement, education, reflection, journaling, conversation, and community.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. You may also want to bring a journal and something to write with. Everything else will be provided.
-
No. Conversation is an invitation, not an obligation. You are welcome to participate at the level that feels right for you.
-
Somatic practices invite us to pay attention to our experiences from within the body. Rather than focusing only on what we think or understand intellectually, we practice noticing sensations, movement, breath, emotions, and other embodied experiences.
-
Hmegrown approaches somatic movement from a trauma-conscious perspective, emphasizing choice, agency, curiosity, and the ability to participate in ways that feel appropriate for you.
-
That's completely okay. This isn't a flexibility class or a performance. The emphasis is on awareness and exploration, not doing movements "correctly."
