Somatic Series: Growing Through Trust

Theme: Receiving Support

We begin to explore what it means to trust what we’ve heard. And trust, in the body, often begins with something very simple:

receiving.

Receiving is not something you earn

For many of us, rest is something we negotiate with ourselves. Something we schedule after everything is done. Something we justify through productivity, exhausting, or depletion.

But in the body, rest is not a reward system.

It’s a nervous system function.

A biological rhythm.

A form of regulation.

This week’s practice is an invitation to gently notice: What happens when I allow myself to receive without needing to earn it?

The Practice of Being Supported

In this session, we explored what it feels like to be supported: by the ground, by breath, by stillness, and by our own attention.

We used gentle movement, cross-body awareness (including the butterfly hug), and restorative shapes to help the body remember something it already knows:

You are allowed to be held.

You are allowed to soften.

You are allowed to not be in effort all the time.

The Nervous System and Receiving

From a nervous system practice, receiving can feel unfamiliar. If your system is used to staying alert, managing, or anticipating needs before they arise, rest can sometimes feel like a vulnerability instead of relief.

This is not something to fix. It is something to notice.

The goal is not to force relaxation. The goal is to build capacity for safety.

Slowly. Gently. Over time.

A small reflection:

As you move through your week, you might return to these questions:

  • What does support feel like in my body?

  • Do I allow myself to receive it?

  • Where do I notice resistance to rest?

  • What happens when I stop trying to earn it?

There are no right answers here. Only awareness, only curiosity, only practice.
